Kate Walling is a scrappy Southern girl and a serial entrepreneur. Raised in the South but now a full-fledged Seattlite, Kate knows a thing or two about big changes and building things from scratch. She’s been up and down the success and failure ladder, and has learned that the recipe for entrepreneurial success is controlled risk, innovation, timing, and chance.
At 24, Kate founded Secret Ingredients, one of the first “make your own cookbook” websites. In addition to gaining the best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever, Kate spent the next five years building and promoting products for women. As CEO, she managed teams of web developers and learned digital print, web 2.0, and e-commerce.
Through her innovative PR efforts, Kate acquired customers in 49 states and left the 50th to flounder without perfect cake. A media natural, she charmed audiences on Chicago ABC7, DayTime (a daily lifestyle show syndicated throughout the southeast), WLOS ABC 13′s Carolina Kitchen & Craft Corner, KGUN ABC Tucson and in interviews for both radio and online magazines. Before leaving North Carolina for Seattle in 2007, Kate participated in a business incubator and technology commercialization program.
Kate lives on a hill in Seattle with her husband Dave and their three scrappy dachshunds. When not helping small companies kick ass, Kate can be found outdoors, cooking or traveling, and curling up with Netflix documentaries. Kate is a really fun nerd.
